All About the Sun T2000 Server

The Sun Fire T2000 Server has reached its end of life (EOL), but it's still very sought after thanks to its innovative design and reputation as an energy-efficiency workhorse. Optimized for strenuous applications including Web 2.0 and databasing, the Sun Fire T2000 has up to 64GB of system RAM, over 500GB of internal storage capacity, as much as 8KB of primary data cache and 3MB of integrated L2 cache.

Especially notable about the Sun Fire T2000 Server is its use of Sun Microsystems' breakthrough CoolThreads processing technology, which greatly lowers power consumption via simultaneous threading. The Sun T2000 comes equipped with Sun's UltraSPARC T1 processor, which at one time offered the highest throughput and most most energy efficiency. Not only is the Sun T2000 eco-friendly, it's also remarkably space-saving.

The Sun Fire T2000 was showered with praise by industry professionals upon its release. InfoWorld.com noted the T2000 packs "higher processing power into a smaller chassis," while NetworkComputing.com said it fulfills the need to "maximize space without sacrificing performance."

Introduced in December 2005, the 2U Sun Fire T2000 Server reached its EOL in November 2009. Sun Microsystems also developed the Sun Netra T2000 Server, which is geared toward telco applications such as web serving, media gateway controlling, IP traffic management and MMS/SMS/unified messaging.

Since the Sun T2000 is no longer purchasable through Sun (now owned by Oracle) directly, it can be obtained through resellers such as Acclinet. For more information about the Sun T2000 and other Sun servers, visit http://www.acclinet.com.
