Understanding Intensity Optics Scopes

Intensity Optics is a subsidiary company of Federal, which is a significant US ammo maker. Federal is held and managed by ATK, an global aerospace and defense holding business. ATK are the owners of a number of sports brands and organizations such as Federal Ammunition, Speer, Champion, and Eagle Industries to name a few. In addition to the Intensity Optics line, ATK also has the Simmons and Weaver Optics brand names of rifle scopes. Primarily based out of Onalaska, WI, Intensity Optics was started in early 2007 and had it's first scope product in the marketplace by mid-2007. Ever since then, Intensity Optics has silently gained a foothold inside the less expensive rifle scope price ranges of $75 to $125. This is the market place that also includes popular brands such as Simmons, the now defunct Tasco, Barska, and NCStar. Even though the precise facts are not known, the Intensity Optics rifle scopes are believed to be constructed in the same Philippines production plant that makes the Simmons line, and several of the less costly Nikon scope series. Many seasoned hunters and shooters do a comparison of the Intensity Optics series to the older, discontinued Simmons 44 Mag series of scopes. A side by side assessment seems to validate that line of thinking as the Intensities appear to be a rebadged 44 Mag scope. This is a good thing given that the Simmons 44 Mag series was very popular for it's affordability and level of effectiveness. It was undoubtedly one of Simmons most successful rifle scope styles. At the time of this writing, Intensity Optics was offering 5 styles in the following configurations:

2.8-10x44mm

3-10x44mm

3.8-12x44mm AO

4-12x44mm AO

6.5-20x44mm AO

Only the 2.8-10 and 3-10 versions do not offer a variable objective. There has also been some suggestions from ATK that they may possibly extend the Intensity Optics line later on to add some additional configurations.
