Getting a new hairstyle for the festive season

Are you keen to have a new look for the festive season? If you plan on going to a lot of parties over Christmas and New Year, you may want a new hair do to make a great impression. Here are 10 steps to getting a new hairstyle this winter.

1. Think about why you want the change. It may be that your current style only needs an update or it could be that you're ready for a dramatic change. You need to be certain if you're planning a big change.

2. Next up is to get a clear idea of what you want. If you know you want a change, but haven't decided what that should be, consider buying some hair, beauty and celebrity magazines for inspiration.

3. Any pictures that feature a colour or style you like, why not cut it out and put it to one side. For example, you may like Blake Lively style or Amber Heard's colour. Either way, gathering as many images as you can.

4. Once you have the pictures, take a look at them all. You need to decide which ones you like the most and which you think will suit you. This last bit is absolutely crucial. A particular cut may look good on Angelina Jolie, but that doesn't mean it will suit your face shape or hair.

5. Now you'll want to decide whether you need to find a new hairdresser or if you're happy for your current stylist to carry out the makeover. Even if you're happy with the salon you go to right now, it never hurts to see what's out there.

6. To draw up a list of alternative salons, it's a good idea to use a local online directory. This will give you a list of hairdressers, with contact information and location, so you can determine which are suitable straight away. You can also use the reviews and ratings facilities many directories provide to see what others think of the service.

7. If you need further help whittling the list down, consider asking friends, colleagues and family members what they think of the salons on your list. If you're new to the area, this may prove especially helpful.

8. Now it's a case of arranging a free consultation with one or two salons. This is an opportunity to discuss the style you have in mind with a stylist. The better ones won't simply say, 'yes, we can do that', they'll offer feedback and suggestions. They should also warn you if they don't thing the style you have in mind is right for you.

9. Have a think about what the stylist(s) said and make a decision on what you're going to have done. This may mean making a compromise on your initial idea, but it could work out for the better. Above all make sure you're happy with what you're going to have done.

10. Now it's just a case of booking an appointment with the stylist. Obviously, with the festive season fast approaching, you'll need to book early to get the appointment slot you want.

So, if you're looking for a Cardiff hairdresser, why not draw up a shortlist using a Cardiff directory?
