You're led to believe after an adorable a capella cover of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" that somehow the only gay boy in McKinley High finally finds someone to love in Blaine, the friendly gay guy at the posh Dalton Academy for the Boys where he warbles for the popular glee club. The kid deserves it. Hasn't he been bullied enough?
Instead of a kiss from Blaine, though, Kurt hears a flight-or-fight lesson. He's told that he can just run away to a better school or stand up to the bullies, to the "neanderthal" that makes his life a living hell.
Meanwhile, Will brings back the traditional boys vs. girl mash-up competition. This time, having noticed Kurt's unhappiness and unchallenged behavior, Will announces to class of a gender-switch up. The girls have to sing songs ordinally sung by guys, and vice versa.
At the same time, Puck's been released on probation and gets back to school, provided he does community service. He decides on Artie as his project. They busk outside at the schoolyard to Bob Marley and the Wailers's "One Love (People Get Ready)." We see the calypso band making a reappearance, and students dropping dollars in Puck's guitar case, for a total of $300. .It's enough money for a double date at Breadstix with Santana and Brittany, whom Puck and Artie persuade to go out in a genius play of reverse psychology. Puck, though, gets in trouble, though, after officials find out about the "community service." Artie offers him a salvo as his tutor and a secret waffle hand-shake.
After hearing from Will about what's been happening behind her back, Coach Beiste prepares to quit. Will, though, persuades her to stay with a mercy kiss reserved for 40-year-old virgins. It was sweet, though, but totally expected, not as shocking, and vaguely weird.
The boys, in apology, dedicate their mash-up of The Supremes' "Stop! In the Name of Love" with En Vogue's "Free Your Mind" to the now-smiling football coach. They do-woop it up in sharp blue tuxedoes and suave dancing, trumping the girls yet again in this year's gender sing-off.
And grounded on the other episodes I've seen, Glee Never Been Kissed Episode is still at the implausible level it accomplished a year ago, when it developed into one of the best dramas on television. While some of their values are obstinate, most are ingrained in the same principles incorporated by the conventional arrows in town. Positively, the show is still exhilarating and sympathetic in the way that it takes to pieces many perfect notions we may have of the cruel world.
