subject: The New Vw Jetta [print this page] Volkswagen has unveiled the new 2011 Jetta which is due to hit Europe in the New Year. The VW Jetta fits in just above the Golf in the VW model line up. Historically the Jetta was basically a Golf with a saloon type boot added. The new Jetta does not share any body panels with the Golf and is a little bit longer but it does share the same platform.
The Volkswagen Jetta in Somerset looks very impressive, it has VW's trademark front headlights and grille, and it looks very clean with sharp lines and crisp angles. The Jetta will be competing with the likes of Toyota's Corolla and Honda's Civic.
The Jetta will suit many buyers, its saloon format means it is much more practical than a Golf but its smaller size makes its more suitable for city and urban drivers. At launch it will be available with six engines, 3 petrols and 3 diesels.
There are two petrol 1.4TSI engines which come with either 121bhp or 158bhp, the 2.0 litre petrol comes with an impressive 197bhp. In the diesel line up there is a 2.0 litre engine with either 138bhp or 168bhp. There is also a 1.6 litre TDI engine which offers the greatest economy and performance balance.
The VW Golf is loved for its stiff suspension set up; the Jetta has inherited the stiff setup and improved on it. For a saloon car it remains sharp and stable even at high speeds. The electric power steering gets weightier with speed, but it doesn't give you enough feedback.
VW's aim is for the Jetta to be a standalone model rather than a Golf with a boot added. Prices for the Jetta start from 15,840, so it is competively priced for the market segment.
