Verbal amnesia is one of the most common forms of this disease. The patient usually forgets names or words in this condition. Temporary loss of memory is very uncommon form of amnesia in which a person even forgets his own name, age, family background and any incidents from the past. When amnesia is caused by the weakness of brain, the patient may suffer from noise intolerance, mild headache and low concentration power.

Often circulatory disorders which result in the poor supply of blood to the brain cells is considered to be one of the major factors for causing memory loss. Dullness and intellect of the brain also lead to a poor memory. Other causes which are largely psychological in origin include anxiety neurosis in persons obsessed with their own problems resulting from lack of attention. An injury may also lead to a temporary loss of memory.

Nature Cure for Memory Loss: The mental health of a person is profoundly affected by diet. Even a small nutritional deficiency in susceptible persons can cause anxiety neurosis.

Persons suffering from memory loss should restrict their diet to three meals per day. Morning breakfast should consist of milk taken along with fruits and a handful of seeds and nuts. Lightly cooked vegetables, whole wheat chapattis and a glass of buttermilk should be included in the afternoon lunch. For dinner all available sprouts such as mung beans, alfalfa sprouts, green vegetable salads and a glass of buttermilk is ideal. Foods rich in phosphorous such as cow's milk, fruit juice, pulses, nuts and cereals should be taken liberally by the patient.

The person suffering from amnesia should avoid tea, coffee, cola, chocolates and alcohol, sugar, food colorings, white flour products, white rice, chemical additives and strong condiments.

Certain home remedies have also been found useful in the treatment of amnesia. One such remedy is the use of the herb Brahmi. About eight grams of this herb should be ground in water after drying it in shade along with six kernels of almond and four decigrams of pepper strained and sweetened with about twenty four grams of sugar. This should be taken every morning on an empty stomach for fifteen days.

Almond is very beneficial in the weakness of the brain caused by poor memory. It contains unique ability to strengthen the brain and remove its weakness. Problems originating from nervous disorders are cured by the dry fruit of almond and it is also useful in preserving the vitality of the brain. The procedure is to immerse the almonds in water for seventy minutes and remove their upper red coating. They should then be made into a fine paste by rubbing them on a stone slab with sandalwood and taken alone. Inhaling 12 to 14 drops of almond oil through the nose is also helpful in the treatment of amnesia.

Vitamins A and E are also very good for memory improvement and consuming foods that are rich in them will work well to keep the memory functioning at its best. Carrots and artichokes also help to improve brain functioning, as do eggs, as they contain lecithin. It is also a good idea to keep the mind rejuvenated with the help of puzzles. Trying to memorize small things such as phone numbers also exercises the mind. Meditation techniques and yoga will help to calm the mind and improve concentration and memory.
