Every wenesday night is a special family night in my house. My kids get to choose what they want to do and us parents have agreed to give it to them if we can! It's our fun little quality time together and thankfully they usually choose to do some Coloring which is low cost and real easy to prepare for.
If they have a favourite character in particular that they like to look for then it has to be Batman without a doubt. I am a fan myself and love to watch the shows with my kids. As role models go, Batman is pretty solid and can be relied on to set a good example, do the right thing and show how being a good person gets good results. I don't use cartoons to raise my kids but I do choose cartoons for them that can reinforce the positive messages I try and teach them.
It's great also how I know the character from my own youth so I feel like I have this in common with them. I can talk about the heroes adventures and the comicbooks I read when I was their age. This is like a rare priviledge these days as many of their hobbies are not something I have much understanding of, videogames in particular are a whole different world to me.
As they sit happily coloring in the adventures of Bruce Waynes alter ego, I look forward to them growing up a little more and being able to take them to the big screen movies about the Batmans fight against crime.
These coloring pages really give me an extra opportunity to bond with my boys and I know that by sitting with them and helping them they will grow up knowing their father enjoyed spending time with them, taking an interest in the things that mattered to them. This can only help build their self esteem and hopefully a good relationship with me, their Dad!
