These numerous fairs and festivals give an insight of Rajasthani culture and because of these Rajasthan is regarded as the most fascinating and colorful state of the country.
Desert Festival
It is one of the most popular and colorful cultural event in Rajasthan, which is held every year in Jaisalmer in January or February, a correct time to visit the Golden city. The event is organized on the famous golden sand dunes at Sam near Jaisalmer. This festival is a showcase of the performing arts and crafts of Rajasthan. You can enjoy the melodious tunes and rhythms of the folk musicians, amazing folk dances and many more. Many exciting competitions like turban-tying, Camel race, Mr. Desert etc are held during the event.
Camel Festival
This vibrant event is organized at Bikaner every year in the month of January. The camel festival is a spectacular opportunity to witness the fascinating Ship of the Desert-the camel in its most lively form. The festival starts with the procession of beautifully decorated camels passing before the Junagarh Fort in Bikaner. The festivity advances with interesting competitions like the best breed competition, the best fur cutting design on camels, a contest for the best decoration and jewellery on camel.
Hundreds of tourists and thousands of locals rejoice in the charm of the festival with local folk performers, jubilant skirt-swirling dancers and endowed fire dancers.
Pushkar Fair
Very few, if at all any, fairs in the world match the liveliness of Pushkar, celebrated in the month of Kartika (Oct or Nov). It has its own magic and is a lifetime experience for visitors. The fair is the world's largest camel fair when the villagers from far and near get together and enjoys a welcome break from their harsh life of the arid desert. The village women dress in their best colorful clothes and finery for this five-day Camel festival.
It is an occasion for Hindu pilgrims to converge for a holy dip in the sacred Pushkar Lake and pay obeisance at the only Brahma temple in the world.
Kolayat Fair
Kolayat Fair is the largest fair of Bikaner district held on Kartik Poornima' (Oct-Now) at Kolayat. Lacks of people get together this time to take a dip in the Kolayat Lake. It is believed that a single-day stay at Kolayat remunerates as much as 10 years spent at any other sacred land.
