TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) is coming up with regulatory plans for the Indian Mobiles India operators in which the companies will be asked to take strict action on the SIM being reported to be stolen by the subscribers. This is going to relieve the customers from the fear of theft. According to the regulatory plans of TRAI, it will be made mandatory for the companies to block the handset if it is reported to be stolen by the user. This will result in securing of this hand set as after this block, the hand set will not operate on any network at all.For now no such measures are adopted in India to tack or block the stolen hand set, just the SIM card can be blocked by the mobile operators but the mobile phone is not taken into consideration.IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is essential for every hand set. The mobile device not carrying an IMEI number will not be allowed to operate in India. This unique code is the identifying number of that particular hand set. No two hand sets will have same IMEI number. All these codes are saved in order to track the hand set anywhere in India. They are stored in an EIR (equipment identity register). Now if the hand set is complained to be stolen by the owner, this EMEI number can be traced and ultimately blocked on that particular network. And if this number is made centralised then the hand set can be blocked on all networks operating in India.Recently there were issues going in market where the Chinese hand sets were discarded from the Indian network as they were laking their EMEI numbers. This number will help in extirpate the stolen hand sets market as ultimately they will not be of any use.
