A bearing can be defined as a member specifically designer to support moving machine components. It is a device to allow constrained relative motion between two or more parts, typically rotation or linear movement. Ball bearing is a kind of bearing that is commonly seen in the daily life. It is a bearing using balls as the rolling element. It can be classified into angular contact ball bearing, deep groove ball bearing, ceramic ball bearing, self-aligning ball bearing, thrust ball bearing, etc. A deep groove ball bearing is one in which the race dimensions are close to the dimensions of the balls that run in it. Deep-groove bearings have higher load ratings for their size than shallow-groove, but are also less tolerant of misalignment of the inner and outer races. Now, let's come to see the self-aligning ball bearing. It is a kind of ball bearing which is constructed with the inner ring and ball assembly contained within an outer ring that has a spherical raceway. This construction allows the bearing to tolerate a small angular misalignment resulting from deflection or improper mounting.
The pillow block bearing, known as a plummer block or a bearing housing, is a mounted plain or roller bearing used to provide support for a rotating shaft with the mounting surface on a parallel line with the axis of the shaft. Housing material for a pillow block bearing is typically made of cast iron or pressed steel. Most pillow block bearings are self-lubricating.
Needle bearing is also a very frequently used mechanical part. It contains a cylindrical roller. The roller is so long and thin that it is called needle bearing. Although this kind of bearing has a small cross section, it sill has a high capacity of bearing load.
From the above introduction, we can see that there are so many kinds of bearings. And it is obvious that the bearing is a rather important mechanical part in our society. Various bearings can be used in various occasions to have their own functions. We should make good use of these mechanical components.
