As we all know China is the biggest furniture exporting country. In 2009, China furniture export amount reach to nearly 26 billion USD. It is no doubt that about 30% of world's furniture is made in China, including the chair you are sitting on :).
There are millions of furniture manufacturer in China. Someone may ask: How do we categorize these furniture makers? Now let me introduce the Chinese furniture manufacturers' "geography" for you.
Generally speaking, furniture industry in China is shared by three regions. They are Pearl River Delta, Yangtze River Delta and Northeast China.
1. Pearl River Delta is the biggest furniture production base in China. It contributed most to the furniture exporting. The well known furniture making cities are Dongguan, Shunde and Zhongshan. Half of the solid wood furniture manufacturers are base here, and they developed many famous brands like Gicasa, Midita, Goldcraft and Royal. The Pearl River Delta is also known for the Chinese style redwood furniture and bamboo furniture.
2. Yangtze River Delta is another bustling furniture making base. The representative cities are Shanghai, Hangzhou, Ningbo and Suzhou. Yangtze River Delta gathering all kinds of furniture manufacturers, from the modern MDF to classic solid wood. But the most unique style is metal furniture, the biggest metal furniture production base is in Xiaoshan, Hangzhou. The furniture stores in Pearl River Delta are much larger than other places, some may cover an area of 300,000 .
3. Northeast China is a long history furniture manufacturing base. It is very close to the Hinggan Mountains Forest Area, so, the solid wood furniture is the highly competitive product of Northeast China. But as the forest is restricted for no cutting, the furniture production is generally falling. The furniture style of Northeast China furniture is simplicity and massive, most of the furniture is made of Manchurian ash, birch and pine. The most famous furniture production base here is Dalian.
Remarks: Hong Kong used to be a big furniture manufacture base in China, but since the year 1997, almost all the Hong Kong furniture manufacturers have moved to Guangdong, Sichuan, and Zhejiang. Also, Hong Kong modern furniture designing is leading the stream.
