When I was growing up in Henfield Mum and Dad were either working or taking us to school or taking me to netball practise and my brother to either football or rugby practise, in between she was cooking or ironing, so I never worked out how she always made our beds washed our clothes and kept the house immaculate. They could not afford professional cleaners and my mum did everything
My Brother and me were always sneezing at the slightest thing so I know Mum was really careful as to what cleaning products she used and wherever possible always got natural products from our local shops in Henfield. Most cleaners use products off the shelf.
My mum used vinegar and water to clean glass and used old news paper to wipe them down this she told me stopped any smearing, granddad used chamois leather for cleaning his glass on the windows of his car and this was as good as newspaper when cleaning ordinary windows, only more expensive. They always came out better than any professional cleaners could achieve.
Vinegar also great for cleaning grease stains, which my brother always managed to leave everywhere from his bike, my mum also used vinegar to clean the grease off the patio stones so my dad would not notice.
Before stain devils came along, when we had a stain on a shirt, like ink or tomato, mum would use dad's vodka to soak into the stain then add salt and then used fizzy water to mop away the salt after half an hour or so before cleaning it in the washing machine or soaking in hot water, but she always made sure not to allow the spot to dry. This is a secret most cleaners do not know about.
Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) was always used in our house for cleaning our cutlery and also when put into a solution of water made our brass really shine. Mum also used to put baking soda into a muslin bag and put it in my brothers' shoes, trainers and football boots as they used to really smell and this really helped to get rid of the odour.
My mum was always cleaning, but I have to say using all the natural substances work just as well as those expensive cleaners and to this day this is what I use at home and in my business.
