subject: The New Bmw 6 Series Convertible [print this page]

In 2003 BMW resurrected the 70s iconic 6 Series, the first generation was based on the BMW 7 Series saloon, and the second generation is based on the 5 Series executive saloon. BMW reacted to Mercedes CLS which is based on the E Class. As well as the CLS the 6 Series competes with Audis A5 and Jaguars XK.

The new 6 series convertible is scheduled for release on 26th March 2011; dealers such as BMW Glasgow are waiting in anticipation as this new model is designed to showcase BMWs latest design vision.

The convertible 6 series features a powerfully contoured roof with a sweeping bonnet, set-back passenger compartment with Hofmeister kink, long wheelbase and a flat waistline. It also has two powerful petrol turbocharged engines, a newly developed chassis and class leading technology to aid the driver.

BMWs 650i and 640i petrol engines will power the new 6 Series convertible, both engines offer smooth power delivery from their respective V8 and inline six-cylinder engines. The engines use twin and single turbocharger technology to produce even more responsiveness and flexibility, exceptional smoothness and efficiency as well as high power levels.

These powerful turbocharged engines do not only provide exceptional performance they also produce remarkable efficiency figures. The BMW 640i Convertible achieves 35.8mpg on the combined cycle, while CO2 emissions are only 185g/km. The 640i is fitted as standard with an automatic gearbox that also features Auto Start-Stop technology and an automatic active air flap control behind the car's kidney grille for optimum engine performance.

As with most BMWs a raft of EfficientDynamics measures are in place to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, both models of the 6 Series convertible come with Brake Energy Regeneration, Electric Power Steering (EPS) and Start-Stop technology as standard.
