I am writing this book asa culmination of what I believe is my life's mission, my life's purpose, my sacred contract. My understanding of one's life mision is beyond one's life style or avocation, beyond all the good that one does daily, although all of this is inexplicably intertwined and related. One's life mission or sacred contract is that part of your life that gives a message or makes a contribution towards the Great Work: that wonderful plan of unity, peace and love which the Divine has for all living being in the web of life.
Within this understanding, I believe that my life's mission is to work toward this great plan of unity by showing the relationship between Christianity and the Earth Spiritualities, especially those of the Native American, Celtic and ancient Jewish traditions. By Earth Spiritualities, I mean those that proclainm the sacredness of creation and see themselves as part of this web of life rather than as a "better species" which has dominion over all the others.
Much of one's life work is often done after the age of fifty. Most of one's life is often a preparation for the last, as Elizaabeth Browning says: "The best is yet to be, the last of life for which the first is made." At least this is how it has happened in my life and it is from this perspective that I write this book.
I write this book in retrospect, so I am often seeing how the past was a preparation for the future. The story will also be a testament to the synchronicity of the universe as connections reverberate through the web of life to point out the way and weave all together in meaningful relationships. And lastly it will show how Christianity is related to the Earth Spiritualities and how I gradually became aware of the similarities myself.
