The 10 Things You Must Know to Survive the Fall of America - No. 5 Avoid the Road to Ruin

THE 10 THINGS YOU MUST KNOW

TO SURVIVE THE FALL OF AMERICA

Think Individually. Act Privately. Ask tough questions of yourself. What skills do you have and how will you market them in the new world economy?

There was a telling story in the news recently. For those of you who are skeptical about the impending Greater Depression, or believe we're back on track for financial recoverythat the worst is behind usthis story may change your mind.

Six states are now turning paved streets back into gravel roads. This trend is expected to increase. When a self-titled super power can't afford to pave the streets, things are broken. Things are FUBAR to use the nautical expression. To me there is no better indicator that we clearly are on the road to ruin. The Wall Street Journal reported on this phenomenon back in July 2010:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704913304575370950363737746.html

The state of our roads is unfortunately indicative of the overall state of our infrastructure. Roads are already becoming an endangered species, what's next? Water, power, sewage, garbage collection, public transportation, schools? Actually, all of these and more are already threatened.

As our infrastructure starts to crumble around us, life as you know it will drastically change. This means that you MUST become more self-dependent than ever before, or you just plain won't survive.

It's high time you look at what you need to live. Start with the basics: air, water, heat, sewage, garbage disposal, power, transportation, food. Make your own list. Then think individually. Which of these necessities can I provide on my own? Which of them will I need to acquire from others? And how will you pay for the necessities you can't produce on your own? Because, if you can't pay for the necessities of life and you can't produce them on your own, how are you going to survive?

Here's a trivial example, but it does showcase the type of thinking you should be doing. Idiots like me who still smoke are going to be faced with a real dilemma. How will we afford our cigarettes? The logical solution would be to stop smoking now. But not a lot of us will succeed. Therefore, the pragmatic solution becomes growing your own tobacco. MSNBC reported on the resurgence of growing your own tobacco in 2009 due to consistently increasing taxes:

Now expand that thinking to your own needs and skills. Can you grow things, build things, fix things? What can you do that others will pay you to do for them? We don't know what's going to happen to the dollar. Will we convert to the gold or Yuan standard? One thing that will always exist is the barter system. Plan accordingly.

This means you will have to act privately. You can only barter what is yours so this means you need to be your own business. You will need to market your products and services. To do this, you must find others who are willing to barter what you need for what they need. Note: this is not the same as bartering what you have for what they have. Both parties must want what the other person is offering. This behooves you to make sure that what you are offering is something people need, not just want but really need. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on October 1st, 2010 took notice of individuals resorting to bartering in today's economic climate:
