Romance is dying for Brits abroad

According to online language school, www.learn2lingo.com, holidaymakers who wished to enjoy a Shirley Valentine style romance missed out on love because they couldn't speak the native language.

The website, which gives lessons in more than 30 languages, has seen an increase in people registering for the service since the start of the summer, with many citing the reason for joining being because they couldn't chat to potential love interests while on holiday.

Here Shira Rubin, founder of the website gives her top five chat up lines for Brits while abroad:

1) French: Comme quoi se sent-il pour tre la fille la plus belle dans cette chambre ?

Translation: What does it feel like to be the most beautiful girl in this room?

2) Learn Spanish: Hola, soy un ladrn y estoy aqu para robarte el corazn

Translation: Hello, I'm a thief and I'm here to steal your heart.

3) Brazilian Portuguese: Eu perdi meu nmero de telefone. Posso pedir o seu?

Translation: I have lost my phone number, can I get yours?

4) Italian: Ciao bella

Translation: Hi gorgeous

5) French: Excusez-moi, on se serait pas dj rencontrs quelquepart?"

Translation: Excuse me, haven't we met somewhere before?

Shira added:

"It's usual at this time of year to see an increase in members joining the site as they want to learn a few key phrases in the language of a country they've just visited. They can often feel frustrated at not being able to communicate with someone they've met while on holiday abroad.

"According to the Office of National Statistics 56 million UK residents travel abroad on holiday each year, so not being able to speak the native language could mean missing out on finding Mr or Mrs Right. So now is the best time to learn Mandarin."
