subject: Record Sales For Used Kias [print this page]

When the UK Government announced the scrappage in 2009 it was for customers buying a brand new car, customers were entitled to a 2,000 allowance for their old car. The old car had to meet certain criteria to be eligible such as, the old car had to be more than 10 years old.

This Government initiative saw the sales of used cars drop, as people were opting to buy new cars as it worked out cheaper if not equivalent to buying certain used cars. A lot of manufacturer backing went behind marketing their new cars, with many abandoning used car promotions altogether.

Kia has recently re-launched its used car programme and so far in 2010 it is showing a 67% increase in the number of units sold, over 5,000 cars have been sold in the 10 months of 2010. David McCluskey National Used Vehicle Sales Manager, Kia Motors (UK) Ltd., commented We have reached our sales target already with two months still to go and Im positive that we will have a strong finish to 2010.

The model to most benefit from the used car programme is the popular city car, the Kia Picanto. The Picantos sales increased by 244% compared to last year, sales of the Kia Ceed increased by 119%. Kia reported that all their models including the used Kia Sedona have done well in the past year.

No doubt, Kias industry first 7 year warranty is helping bring in the customers and who can blame them? A 4 year old Kia would still have 3 years manufacturer warranty left; many manufacturers provide that remaining balance with their brand new vehicles.
