Starting Up a Computer Repair Business
Starting Up a Computer Repair Business

So you like to work on computers...maybe you are the go-to computer guy in your family and immediate neighborhood. You seem to have a knack for it. Should you turn your hobby into your career and quit your real job'? Probably not.

I don't mean to discourage anyone from pursuing their dreams...I just want to shed some light on what exactly it takes to start and build a computer services company. First of all, if you enjoy working on computers, that's great. But what you need to know is that as your business grows, you will be forced to work on computers less and manage the business more. This is great for someone like me who has a natural knack and passion for running a successful business. But for a tech guy' who just wants to work on computers, perhaps owning a business and all that goes with it is a good way to grow tired of your passion.

That being said, owning and operating a computer services business can be exciting and highly rewarding. Helping people with technology is fun and I am blessed to come into work every day and to enjoy what I do. Before starting a computer repair business, reach out to a few business leaders in your community, vendors you have done business with, or colleagues you have worked with in the past. Most business people are very willing to help someone with advice (especially if you buy them lunch!) and this will help you make an informed decision on which direction is best for you.
