I Hate Public Transportation
I Hate Public Transportation

There are so many different types of public transportation, but the main ways are usually buses and trains. Many cities have developed other types that are kind of hybrids of trains and buses. Streetcars, trams, or any type of rail system are used in heavily dense population areas or used or intercity travel. But all of them rely on the same thing. Ridership. And that only happens if the system is good. Those systems are constantly expanding and getting better. But many other are struggling to keep up with the city. These are the systems that are not in the best interest for the rider, but for the company. I live in one of these cities and getting around the city can be the most confusing and ridiculously tedious things ever.

My city consists of buses, trains, streetcars and a random rapid rail system with 6 stops. The buses are getting better, but the roads are getting more packed and they get caught in traffic so easily. The train system needs to be expanded. In some of the busiest stations (downtown) there are some of the SMALLEST platforms for trains. Rush hour is like defending your life when the train comes. The trains are not that interconnecting at all as well. There are very few transfer points, meaning more people in the same station and train going the same place. The streetcars, oh the streetcars. They are vulnerable to so much that prevents it from arrive at your stop. They can only go on a track in the middle of the road and are subject to traffic (like buses), accidents/ stalls (not like buses), and power failures. The most inconvenient way of travel, yet it is one of the most common is the worst areas.

I used to travel everywhere I went by the bus. School, work, mall, going out with friends, parties etc. Many times I would be using it at least 4 times a day. Those were not good times. Going downtown a lot required taking the trains as well. And experiencing streetcars. So much waiting. If you were to put all those waiting times together, that's probably a quarter of my awake life. Not including the actual commute. Hopefully one day, we will all have systems that blow our minds and make people want to use them.

I have taken public transportation for almost half of my life and it has been a day by day chain of unfortunate events. I've definitely seen it all. But more new stuff everyday. But the only common denominator in all of it is SUCKING. Here are the 20 Reasons Why I Hate Public Transportation.
