subject: The Different Advertising Strategies [print this page]

Advertising strategies are used to grab the attention of consumers and provide them with an alternative way to look at products and the brands available. The forms and strategies of advertising should go hand in hand to make sure that advertising investments turn into profit.

For tourist destinations like Toronto, New York, and many more, it is important for advertisers and their advertisements to reach the public and create an impact. Otherwise, if the advertisements remain stagnant, the public will not be able to appreciate or even see the points behind the ads.

Since television is the most common source of entertainment for most people, it is also the one of the greatest venue for advertisers to promote products, ideas and services. However, more and more people avoid advertisements. It is considered a disruption to the normal flow of programming which causes people to change channels.

To sustain the attention of the viewers and to prevent them from turning the channel, it is crucial for advertisers to be able to catch the viewers attention and to instantly change their minds about changing the channel. In a Toronto TV commercial for example, it is considered a weak advertising strategy to plainly present some of its tourist spots through pictures which can easily be downloaded through the internet. It is a stronger strategy though to show never before seen footages of these tourist spots in an upbeat commercial which can entice and intrigue the viewers.

Aside from weak and strong advertising strategies, there are also ones that are considered good but not satisfactory. If a Toronto TV commercial for example, presents an advertisement about its tourist spots through an informative ad, it may be considered good but not satisfactory because it doesnt entice the viewers to come and visit.

Strong strategies are always the most effective choice. This includes affective and resonance advertising. Affective advertising makes viewers feel good about a certain product or idea. A Toronto TV commercial for example may show images and footages of people laughing and enjoying the different attractions of the city accompanied by an upbeat music. This gives viewers a good feeling about visiting the place and enjoying the attractions as well. Resonance on the other hand presents advertisements that the viewers can relate to like pregnancy advertisements to pregnant moms. One of these strategies or a combination of each will create very effective advertisements.
