subject: 2011 Looks Promising For The Recruitment Sector [print this page]

2009 was reported as one of the worst years for the recruitment sector in a long while. Many recruitment agencies will be breathing a huge sigh of relief as the BDOs review of the latest outputs from Recruitment Industry Benchmarking (RIB) has indicated that 2010 has been significantly better.

The RIB found that there were two key strategies for its members to ensure their survival throughout 2010. These consisted of maintaining relationships with previous or current clients and increasing the number of clients they work with.

According to the RIB report, although the average amount of new clients has only increased slightly, from 27.5% to 28.4% within the last 12 months, maintaining client relationships has been more successful with an estimated 5% more clients being billed compared to 2009. This is all very promising for 2011.

Brand Recruitment, Marketing and PR Recruitment Specialists, are in agreement that 2010 has been significantly better than 2009. The amount of marketing jobs throughout Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire has risen. Marketing opportunities in Norfolk and Suffolk have not been as fruitful as in other counties but this has been a regular trend.

Due to recent government cuts, recruitment for the Public Sector has diminished, whilst the Private Sector has maintained a steady rate which has increased over the final half of 2010. On the client side, retail, FMCG, healthcare and technology companies have dominated the sectors which are seeking new marketing recruits. Agency side have also maintained a stable level too.

Despite reports on graduate unemployment being at its highest for 17 years, Brand Recruitment has seen a rise in companies looking to recruit recent graduates. These roles have predominantly been online marketing focused. This could be a result of this generation being more online savvy due to their general use of the internet, social media and mobile phones.

With this encouraging report from the BDO, 2011 looks to be promising for the recruitment sector. Hopefully, these figures will improve throughout 2011 as the market returns to its pre-2009 state.
