subject: Selecting Bedroom Furniture For Style And Comfort [print this page]

Your bedroom should reflect your unique personality, while providing you with a sense of comfort and security at the same time. New bedroom furniture should be an expression of that and is not a purchase that should be made on impulse. When you have made the decision to purchase new furniture for your bedroom, it can help to stop and consider what exactly you want out of it before embarking on your journey to find the perfect new bed or bedroom set.

The biggest decision when it comes to bedroom furniture is, of course, the bed itself. There are so many options out there for beds that you should settle for nothing less than perfect. Perfect, though, is different for every bed buyer. Your first concern will be size. The occupants of the bed, as well as the bedroom size, will be the main factors affecting this decision. If two people are going to be sleeping in the bed, anything less than queen-sized will be a bit too cozy for most people. Two people can generally fit comfortably on a queen-sized bed, but for those who want the extra space, a king-sized bed may be the answer. Make sure that the room will accommodate a king-sized bed first, though. Take measurements of both the bed and the room, and visualize how much space the bed is going to occupy. If you have to shimmy around furniture or step over corners to get to various parts of the room, the room is probably too small for that size of a bed. You may think you can handle a more cramped space as a trade-off for a larger bed, but down the line you may wind up regretting that decision.

Once you have determined which size of bed you need, it is time to figure out which style of bed you want. All kinds of headboards and footboards are available, as well as frames. Solid wood frames with polished headboards and engravings can add a sense of elegance to a room. Headboards add a feeling of firmness to a bed, and can also come in many shapes and sizes. Some headboards also have cabinets built in to them to provide extra storage space in the bedroom, and some have night stands attached as well to provide a place for a clock or reading lamp. Keep in mind, though, that adding any headboard, footboard or frame is going to add to the total size of your bed. Make sure that your space can handle the extra bedroom furniture before you bring it home.

Once the bed is taken care of, you should determine what other bedroom furniture you need. There are many different additional pieces that can accompany your bed, but you may not need all of them. An upright dresser is a common addition to a bedroom set that can hold any clothes that are not hung up in your closet. When selecting a dresser, make sure it matches the style of your bed. It is not always possible to see the two together, so if you can take a wood or color sample of your bed frame it can help ensure a match.

The same general principle is the same for each additional piece of bedroom furniture you buy. If you have a television or entertainment system that you would like to use in your bedroom, an entertainment cabinet may be a good addition. Smaller stand-alone shelves can be useful for anything you cannot fit in your dresser and can even double as a night stand.

Selecting furniture that speaks to you is the most important thing when deciding on new a new look for your bedroom. With a little planning you can ensure that you get just the bed and accessories that you need.
