As of June 1, 2010, Kansas Medicare recipients will have the option to purchase one of two newKansas Medicare Supplement Plans. Many companies are now offering Plans M and N. This will not change coverage for existing Medicare Supplement clients, but these new plans offer some benefits which many seniors will find suit them, and the plans cost significantly less than other standardized supplements.
Plans M and N feature higher cost sharing and lower anticipated premiums for policyholders. Plan M covers 50% of the Part A Deductible and has no coverage for the Part B Deductible. Plan N has a new copay structure--$20 for physician visits, $50 for ER, and no coverage for the Part B Deductible. With a Kansas Medicare Supplement, you are covered immediately without waiting, so if you have preexisting health conditions they will be paid from the day your policy goes into force. Furthermore, the only terms whereby your policy can be canceled is non-payment. As long as you continue paying premiums, the plan has to cover all Medicare-approved charges. Furthermore, as time goes by and Medicare deductibles and coinsurance increase, all your benefits on the policy will increase, dollar for dollar.
Rate increases in Kansas are based on your age, and not on the number of claims paid out--in other words you cannot be singled out for a rate increase. When changes take place in Medicare (as we are anticipating they are)--with the right insurance agent--you can stay up to date on all thedifferences in the new laws.
Finally, there is no lifetime maximum to coverage, so a Kansas Medicare Supplement is a plan you can keep. Be sure you sign up during your open enrollment period (when you first turn 65 or go on Medicare) so you can get the best possible rate and have the plan you really want.
