You have spent your entire life listening to people tell you that you need to wash your face. For most of us, face washing is much more of a chore than anything else and it is not usually something we want to make time for. When all you want to do is go to sleep, washing your face is a huge pain in the...you know what--even if you can still remember your puberty years like they just finished happening. Here's the skinny: to keep your skin clear and your pores unclogged, you need to keep your face clean. Do you want to have a breakout as an adult? Here is how you keep your face clean and keep acne away.

Wash your bedding regularly. For some people, keeping their blankets and sheets and pillowcases clean is not a priority. If you suffer from acne problems, you cannot be one of these people. It is especially important that you keep your pillowcases as clean as possible. This will ensure that dust and other pore cloggers have a hard time getting into your face while you sleep. You should also take care to always wear clean clothing and pajamas. A breakout can be caused by something as seemingly safe as wearing a day old t-shirt or night shirt.

Pay attention to the oil content in the cosmetics and beauty products you buy. Believe it or not sometimes even your facial cleanser has oil in it! Your biggest motivation for washing your face is to get the oil off of it and out of your pores! When you go shopping be sure to look at the ingredients of the different products that you buy. The easiest way to do this is to choose powder based beauty products instead of those with liquid bases. When you purchase a facial cleanser, choose one that is not lotion-y and is more liquid than solid. Be careful and use your common sense!

Do not, under any circumstances, pick at pimples or zits when they occur! Do not squeeze pimples or pick at zits. If you do not leave your pimples alone they won't heal correctly. It is all right to wash your face and treat your breakout with some acne fighting cleanser but never ever pop or pick at your zits. Sometimes acne will take a little bit of time to heal. Which would you prefer to face? A couple of days sporting a few spots or decades sporting spot scars? One of the best ways to treat acne breakouts is to simply stick to the basics: wash your face and keep your hands to yourself. Once in a while the basic cleanser is not enough and you need to use a product that is a little bit harsher. The good news is that, whether you are in your teens, twenties or sixties--there are plenty of ways to help you keep the acne at bay!
