Too Revealing, or Just Fashionable?
Too Revealing, or Just Fashionable?

Is women's clothing becoming too revealing, or are we just growing a bit older and more prudish? On the tube the other day I saw a woman in Prada sunglasses, neon pink hair and a mini skirt so mini I could nearly see up her birth canal. Part of me felt repulsed by her apparent lack of concern for concealing her body, while most of me felt that under no circumstances would I ever wear something as revealing in public. Was she fashionable or slutty? She was wearing designer eyewear that fit her hair color and face shape quite nicely. Her lace up boots (to the top of the thigh) were a bit skanky but clean, and looked expensive. Perhaps she was fashionable and I'm the prude.

All too often I think Hollywood women wear revealing clothing to get attention. It is a competitive and difficult business, being a diva in California, but these ladies set a standard that other women seem to think it is normal to follow. You'll see Britney Spears wearing something that hardly hides her rear, and then a week later several women will board the tube wearing the same thing. Are these Hollywood ladies aware that they are influencing women in Europe?

More importantly, is it fashionable to be so revealing? True, some fashion looks require a bit of skin, but lately I'm starting to think our clothing designers are just growing lazy. All they want is sex appeal as sex sells. The more attractive the woman wearing those new Levi jeans, the more women will want to emulate her and buy similar jeans. Is it fashion's fault, or just commerce?
