Finding Identity in Fashion
Finding Identity in Fashion

Many people try to find their identity through fashion. They use bright colors, designs, logos and print to express who they are and how they feel. Some people, like the woman in the image here, has taken self expression to a whole new level, but you can't but feel happy that she seems content to be expressing herself. You may think that wearing designer clothing and accessories can't change who you are, and that if it did it would make you shallow and pedantic. But, consider that self expression is an animalistic hangover surviving evolution. Bears preen, monkeys preen, even insects are concerned with their hygiene and appearance. Birds are notoriously self-conscious about their appearances, why not humans? Is it not counter-revolutionary to avoid thinking and working towards your best possible appearance?

Women dress to impress to secure a mate, find comfort and security long-term, and to please the mate and thus keep him interested in protecting, feeding and comforting the woman. This is obviously a base concept that operates on the subconscious level. Men are no different. They dress in such a way to inspire strength, show wealth or intellect, or demonstrate knowledge or aptitude and thus attract a mate, keep her interested and thus close by, and earn the respect of fellow (competing) males. So, when you think about it in this light, is it strange than men and women spend so much time thinking about fashion?

Designer accessories are a great way to demonstrate your knowledge of fashion, protect yourself from the idea that you may be forging your appearance (like fake sunglasses or fake designer clothing) which can only end up hurting your overall appearance.
