2010 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas: The countdown has started before next weekend's kick-off

For the second year, the U.S and Italy will confront one another for the Fed Cup, the annual international team tennis competition for women. The San Diego Sports Arena will host the event. They anticipate a large crowd of enthusiastic fans. The event will be huge as this is the first time since 2000 that the competition takes place in United States, when the U.S won their 17th Fed Cup Title.

The US Cup Captain, Mary Joe Fernandez, has shown her excitement and has decided to bring the Fed Cup title back to US soil.

San Diego has been known to be city with a long and rich tennis history. The 1989 Davis Cup, the annual international team tennis competition for men, between the U.S and France, took place in the same venue. The Mayor of San Diego, Jerry Sander, has said he would be proud to host a such event and he is looking forward to showcase a city truly passionate for tennis. This exposure will contribute to build a relationship with the international tennis community as well.

This event will be the second Fed Cup Final Between USA and the Italians who have never been defeated in seven previous Fed Cup Finals in the State of California.

Both team's line-up have already been announced; Bethanie Mattek-Sands, Melanie Oudin, Coco Vandeweghe and Liezel Huber, will defend the American flag, while Francesca Schiavone, Flavia Pennetta, Roberta Vinci, Sara Errani will represent Italy. Last year Italy defeated the U.S in Reggio Calabria but this year, the Americans have home advantage. We will just have to keep our fingers crossed.
