People tend to be afraid of what they don't understand. This fear then results in actions to silence the cause of their fear. This is what has been and continues to happen to homosexuals in the United States. Homosexuals are not allowed to marry in most states. This results in them not being able to take part in any of the lawful actions that most partners take. They can't be considered legally bound to one another through a relationship. Their voices are often silenced by politicians running on empty words that are used only for their reelection.
The good news is that a lot of America is beginning to change their views on homosexuality. We are starting to understand that it is not a threat. It is mere an alternate lifestyle. The love that is shared is the same as between a man and a woman. The emotions attached are exactly the same. The only difference is the love making. There is no one on Earth that has the right to judge any else's choices. We are supposed to be a free country and allowed to do what we wish as long as we are not causing harm to any other individual. This again is where the fear becomes a problem. Fear mixed with ignorance breeds insanity.
Due to the fear and ignorance, homosexuals are persecuted in a variety of ways. They are held down simply because they are bred with feelings for individuals of the same sex as them. This does not cause any danger. There are no increases in harmful acts in places where homosexuals congregate such as a gay bar. There is no legitimate reason to act the way most due in regards to homosexuality except for the fear and ignorance. God is often called upon to give reason for the persecution, but we are not supposed to bring our religious beliefs into the decisions of law. Unfortunately, this happens and those who invoke God forget the New Testament where God is more forgiving and open to the ideas of freedom, peace and love.
