This year in America, Veterans Day is observed on Thursday November 11th. In 1918at the11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, Itwas establishedas adayof armistice (a ceasing of action)between Germany and the Allied nations and came into effect. On November 11, 1919,Veterans Day was commemorated for the first time. President Wilson proclaimed the day should be "filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory".There were parades, celebrations and a brief suspension of business observed at 11am.
World War l ended in 1926, Congress officially recognized this day and declared ita day of armistice and that is should be remembered with prayer and thanksgiving. Congress also requested that all officials are to display the United States flag on all Government buildings. Inviting churches, schools and all other places to gather in celebration.
