Tip 1: You should be aware that there are more than two types of grapes out there. If you're just beginning your career on the grape growing business, I am sure you understand that there are at least two kinds of grapes, white grapes and red grapes, but the truth is that there are far more types than that. There are three main categories used to classify grapes, wine grapes (Chardonnay or Cabernet), table grapes (Red Flame or Thompson) and slipskin grapes (Concord). The reason why I am telling you this it's because you're gonna have to choose the best type of grape for the soil and weather conditions of your property. You can know all the secrets on the world to grow amazing grapes but if you fail the easy step of selecting what kind of grape to plant, you're not gonna get the results you want.
Tip 2: Be sure you plant your vines as fast as possible after purchasing them. If you can't plant them one day after you get them, be sure you keep their routes hydrated or plant them in a provisory place until you can change them to their final location.
Tip 3: You have to keep a diary of your work. Note down everything you do and the way vines are looking and responding to your efforts. You should also keep a very close look to the leaves of your plantation as they're the best indicators to weather your vines are healthy or not.
Tip 4: Give them privacy. Space your vines 8 to 10 feet so that they can grow to their fullest potential. Vines love to spread out their routes so when you plant them all close to one another they're not going to produce as much as they could. Try to maximize the space you have but do not shoot yourself in foot.
Tip 5: Before planting your vines you should be sure that the soil is well prepared. You don't want to plant them on a soil that looks like concrete, the soil needs to be loose and drain rapidly. One can easily achieve this by amending the soil previous to planting your vines. Be sure you amend deeper than you would normally do since vines develop deep routes over time.
