Installing a Web Server Environment for Development and Testing on MAC

Developed by Living EAG - Is a simple Web Server environment that allows you to install a Web Server and Database Server in minutes.

Designed for to be installed on a MAC this tools installs and configures Apache Web Sever, MySQL Database and PHP Module.

This tool is very good for installing as test and development environment on your local machine. Note that this is only suitable for testing and development. It is never advisable to use as base for a live environment. Best option for live environment is setup a linux server with Apache, MySQL and PHP.

You can download the app from mamp.info. The installation process is very simple and quick. All you have to do is download the distribution file extract it. Open the application and simply install by dragging the tool within to the application folder and you are done. The installation process should take less then a minute to do.

Once installed, all you need to do is click on the application folder or through the Mac Widget that comes with the application. The application features a Start/Stop button (changes dynamically as you click). By default the start pages opens automatically. The Preferences pane allows you to control certain expects of the server environment such as Ports, PHP Version and Document Root. Having said this you can adjust all these these features by accessing the respective configuration files. Remember to Stop and Start the application before attempting any changes.

By default the DocumentRoot is located within the MAMP application folder. This is the location where you would put you project folder.

Setting up and managing databases is also really easy. The application comes equipped with the myPHP Admin Tool for database administration. This is assessable through the start page for MAMP.
