Kerman bazaar is a favorite with those tourists who visit Kerman. It stretches from Arq Square to Moshtaqiyeh Square in the city. There are numerous corridors in the bazaar called Ganj Ali Khan, Arg, Sardari, Ekhtiyari, Qadam Gah, Vakil and Mozaffari. The different parts of the market have been built by the various rulers who have ruled over Kerman through the ages. The Arg row starts at Arg Square and is again split into two rows called Saraji and Naqareh Khaneh. There is no cover over some part of the Saraji row. The Ganj Ali Khan row was built during the rule of the Safavids and is located near the Square of the same name. There are many shops and a bathing complex in this row.
The Main Rows
When you visit Kerman and go to the Kerman bazaar, you will find that the Vakil row will give you an opportunity to see an alley, a caravansary, a mosque and a public bath. It is just like a normal bazaar with guilds along the row. It was made by Mohammad Esmail Khan Vakil-ol-Molk and completed by his son.
The Qadam Gah row has both traditional and modern shops. Along the right side are located the new and recent shops with the older ones on the left. You can see about 121 shops here. To the south of the market is the Qalleh row and it stretches for 500 meters. This row is famous for its iron monger workers. You can take back many mementos from this bazaar when you visit Iran.
Goods for Sale
If you want to buy quilts, carpets and groceries, you can get into the Maidan Qal'eh row when you visit Kerman. This part of the Kerman bazaar stretches for 600 meters and starts at Imam Khomeini Avenue. There are about 47 shops in the Zargari row which includes many goldsmiths. For this reason this row is well protected. Shoemakers can be found in the Kafashan row which has a covered alley with over 160 shops. The Aziz row is famous for a Khaneqah or monastery called Nematollahi. It also has about 70 shops.
Beauty of the Bazaar
The Chahar Sooq is an important part of the Kerman bazaar which you must see when you visit Kerman. There is beautiful plaster work and also paintings made during the rule of the Safavids. There are skylights which brighten up the interior and are a must-see when you visit Iran.
