Window Replacement at Home

A lot of homeowners are doing do-it-yourself window replacement on their outmoded single or double-pane windows with modern replacement windows made of vinyl or other strong synthetic materials. Older windows are much more difficult to be used, plus they need more maintenance. If you will be replacing your windows by yourself, there are some things to consider before you get started.

First, you have to get accurate measurements of the area where you will put your replacement window in order to have a perfect fit. You must use a precision measuring device in order to get the most exact dimensions of the old window to be replaced.

In order to install the new replacement window into the existing window frame, you have to remove the old window. This will include the top and bottom windows on a double-hung window style. The wood frame from the window must be removed, and you have to be careful in taking out the four pieces of framing, since you will make use of them again once you are going to install your new window.

The bottom window must be taken out through cutting down the thing that holds the window in place. You have to move the top window towards the position taken by the bottom window. Before installing your st louis window replacement, clean the window sill and the frame. Be sure to fill out holes and cracks in the frame or sill with waterproof sealing products.

Also, seal the inner part of the exterior frame. You have to align the top and bottom of the st louis siding replacement window into the center part of the frame. Then, you must move the window stops toward the middle of the frame until you see the mounting holes in the side of the window replacement. There have to be two holes on both the top and bottom sides each of the window replacement unit.

Then, place the replacement window into the opening and make sure that it fits squarely. Drive the mounting screws into the top and bottom parts of the window replacement. Remember that st louis windows should not be installed too tightly. Check the new window if it operates smoothly. If not, you have to reinstall it.
