I really love watching the leaves in the park fall like so much golden snow. There is not quite so much pleasure in what falls from those trees closest to our house. They might look pretty at first, but soon something has to be done.
We have three huge horse chestnut trees just outside our yard wall and come late October the leaves are in full fall mode. Even though I love the colours of the leaves, cleaning them up to stop the family trailing them in the house has always been a real big chore.
Take last weekend, the yard was ankle deep in huge brown leaves, we went out to clear up and my son was so pleased. He just loves the fact that he could get the leaf blower/shredder out and collect and shred the leaves. He collected about 20 bags on Sunday and it did not take as long as you might expect. The shredder is so fantastic that it can reduce 16 large bags of leaves down to one bag which can easily be disposed of.
Even though the motor is very powerful, the machine is light and quiet, so we do not disturb the neighbours. It also has a variety of speeds, to help you deal with different areas.
The blower converts to a vacuum easily, without the need for tools and the shredded leaves can be composted and used to mulch the garden. The metal blower blades easily deal with acorns, small stones and small broken off twigs without getting damaged.
Because of its electrical motor you will find that there is no smell of gas or fumes and it starts without stress. This also means that the machine is very light, so even my wife can carry it easily. The main disadvantage is the length of the cord trailing behind you. You have to be very careful with it, and you can always add an extension lead for very large areas.
With our old gas leaf blower, I always ended up filthy from the gas and fumes but the electric motor avoids these problems. This one is also very strong and much more user friendly.
Our leaf blower will probably be in use most weekends and I will not have to fetch gas for it, nor store inflammable liquid in the garage or in the machine. So when I am ready it is ready too.
When looking for an easy way to keep the yard clear of all those leaves, you could not do better than to check out the Toro 51599.
