Isn't it annoying to run multiple instant massaging clients like Yahoo! Messenger, Live Messenger or Gtalk and joggle around to see who is online all the time. Not to mention the system resources it consumes. Many messengers don't have support for linux or Mac. Pidgin solves all these problems..
Pidgin is a chat program which lets you log in to accounts on multiple chat networks simultaneously. This means that you can be chatting with friends on MSN, talking to a friend on Google Talk, and sitting in a Yahoo chat room all at the same time.
Pidgin is compatible with the following chat networks out of the box: AIM, ICQ, Google Talk, Jabber/XMPP, MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, IRC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, QQ, Lotus Sametime, SILC, SIMPLE, MXit, MySpaceIM, and Zephyr.
In addition to these networks, pidgin can be customized to run many other chat networks like facebook. To learn how to add facebook on pidgin please visit http://www.facebook.com/sitetour/chat.php
Pidgin is really simple to use and customize, like adding twitter or adding music updates is really easy with the large base of pulgins. It satisfies all my instant messaging needs and sits silently on the system tray.
The best part of pidgin I believe are the plugins. There are almost any plugins that can fit your needs. I personally use the twitter update plugin and the music track info plugin. Pidgin suits almost everyone
