Why Would You Choose Small Dog Breeds

Small dog breeds are becoming more and more popular to dog lovers around the world for a number of reasons. If you're thinking about getting a new puppy for your home, then here are some reasons why you might want to go with a smaller breed instead of a large breed.

Smaller Grocery Bill

One reason that you would want to choose a smaller dog breed would be for the purpose of saving money on your monthly food expense for them. Smaller dogs eat much less than their larger counterparts so you're going to spend much less of your budget on the food that you have to buy for them every month. Why? Simple, because they have smaller stomachs and require less daily food intake. Have you ever seen a Newfoundland or even a large lab eat only a half a coup of food a day? Probably not, and if you did, he would probably be skin and bones and very unhealthy.

Travel

Smaller dogs are easier to travel with overall because they take up less room in your vehicle. Big dogs can take up a lot of room and can be a distraction to you while you're driving, especially if they absolutely have to sit in the front seat next to you which can be dangerously distracting. Little dogs will only take a small portion of your backseat, or front seat for that matter, so there will be plenty of room for other people or luggage.

Home Alone

If you have to spend a lot of your day away from home at work or somewhere else, then it would be easier to leave a small dog at home because they don't have to be taken out to go to the bathroom as much, and you can train them to use piddle pads instead of having to go outside. You could train your large dog to use the piddle pads, but because they are larger, there messes will also be larger, which could create a messy situation in your home.
