Intuition is a form of intelligence that comes from our sixth sense. We are all born with this intelligence but lose the ability as we come to rely wholly on our five senses and our rational mind. If we can't taste, see, hear, feel or smell something then we dismiss it often with regret. Intuitive guidance is an attribute of the soul and when developed can make all the difference to effective decision making, creative flow and living in a state of ease and contentment rather than anxiety, stress, procrastination and panic.
Have you ever ignored your own intuitive wisdom when making a critical decision in your life or perhaps when picking up a hunch or feeling regarding someone which later turned out to be correct and you wanted to kick yourself?
Or perhaps you've been thinking about someone and out of the blue and they suddenly phone you. Intuition has helped many people survive potential accidents and life threatening situations.
Malcolm Gladwell in his bestselling book Blink' writes about how decisions are made on gut reaction, he refers to it as thinking without thinking' and goes on to prove with numerous studies of real life situations from a broad section of people how decisions made in an instant, almost without thinking, tended to be better decisions than those made after analytical considerations.
Intuition is not the same as instinct which is a primal function of your subconscious mind. Intuition is a conscious function, highly refined and is a high vibration way you have of observing the world. It gives you the capacity to feel the energy within you and around you.
The problem here is because we can't rationally prove this information we easily dismiss it. We let our conscious functions get in the way and question what we are feeling.
Intuition enables all of us to use more of our brains potential as well as our body and spirit. Intuitive insight is whole-brain thinking and our inner teacher. It gives us a way to be informed directly from our spirit. When we are in tune with our intuition then we are able to discover our soul purpose or destiny and begin to move more naturally towards exploring opportunities and people and situations that we are more aligned with and in harmony with. As we give off a vibration we literally attract others by our thoughts and emotions. The closer they are to our heart's intention then the better the match. We experience intuition through a number of ways;
Tightness in the chest, hairs on the back of our neck, butterflies in the tummy, a visual flash of insight, through our dreams. We often talk about having a gut reaction when meeting someone for the first time. Scientists have now discovered there are receptor cells in the intestinal walls which are sensory cells that pick up feelings which confirm this gut reaction.
Many successful entrepreneurs rely on their intuition to generate ideas and make critical strategic decisions and generate creativity. People like Steve Jobs, Richard Branson, Bill Gates, JK Rowling and Elizabeth Gilbert as well as creative legends and scientists such as Da Vinci and Thomas Edison.
So how do learn to develop and recognise your intuition?
Intuition needs a quiet calm mind so meditation helps so you can tune into your feelings.
You must learn to be open to it and that sometimes means that everything cannot be explained in a rational way.
You must expect your intuition to inform you, be observant of your bodies' reaction. It's all about recognising the feelings that come rather than over-thinking every situation or opportunity.
Trust the information as reliable.
Recognise the difference between your feelings and someone else's emotions being projected onto you.
The more you recognise and act upon your inner guidance the more reliable it becomes and if you don't use it you lose it!
