Car thefts historically have increased by ten percent in December over the last couple of years, with these figures staying high through January while shoppers take advantage of the discounts and buying up good deals in the sales.
Advice is to be extra vigilant during this time, and understand that thieves do not believe in goodwill and peace on earth, like most people do during these months. Make sure that you park in car parks or lit areas rather than trying to save on parking and parking in areas that you wouldn't normally.
Many car insurers cover theft to vehicles, but you will have to pay a premium and risk losing your no claims bonus, making your Car Insurance higher next year, so its better to be careful and avoid having your car broken into in the first instance.
