Since it was established in May 2009, the SSIP programme has grown to include more then 50,000 businesses that have reached a recognised standard of health and safety.
SSIP was set up to act as an umbrella organisation to facilitate mutual recognition between health and safety pre-qualification schemes and actively advise and influence clients about acceptable interpretation and appropriateness of health and safety competence standards in UK schemes.
Dermot Maurer EMS Head of Product and Market Development said: "We are pleased to be extending our membership of the SSIP for the mutual benefit it offers to both sides of the business community buyers and suppliers in both the public and private sector"
The audit process for SSIP has created two service levels from EMS: the first is the existing Exor H&S assessment which remains at its current level and the higher level audit undertaken by SAFEcontractor, to meet the standards required by its private sector clients. For example, SAFEcontractor is recognised by all other members of SSIP as meeting the requirements of CDM 2007 CORE criteria but suppliers who wish to be recognised by SAFEcontractor buyers will need to answer a few additional questions.
SAFEcontractor clients and contractor members can be assured that there will be no dilution in the level of assessment and professional approach for SAFEcontractor accreditation. SAFEcontractor will continue its work of improving organisations' health and safety processes, limiting bureaucracy and duplication, as well as continuing to provide our clients with confidence when selecting their contractors.
Simon Mantle, Chair of SSIP said: "We are delighted to welcome SAFEcontractor into the SSIP forum. As an organisation with a substantial register of contractors, SAFEcontractor's joining of SSIP represents a significant step forward in SSIP achieving its aim of removing duplication in prequalification. This move will greatly benefit contractors and industry alike".
