Toyota has been through a rough spot and has come out nearly unscathed. If you've opened your RSS feed in the last year, you're bound to have come across an article about the Toyota Prius recalls. It wasn't just the Prius though; the recalls extended to Corollas and other models, including some Lexuses (Lexi?). Chicago used Corolla dealers were hit pretty hard during the scandal, and it's a wonder that they weren't hurt any worse. For the Prius, the problem turned out to be a sticky pedal and a problematic rug. In the end, the cars were recalled for fear that more drivers would get in accidents and potentially harm themselves. But Toyota bounced back big with an ad campaign that shed light on how dedicated the company is to safety. And it's true, Toyota has had some of the safest, most dependable and most fuel efficient cars on the market over the past several years. Lucky for the brand, the loyalists united, and after a short hiccup by the automaker, Toyota dealt with the problem swiftly. But the media wouldn't let them off the hook that easily, and Chicago Prius drivers were barraged with story after story bashing the brand for its negligence.
Not to toot Toyota's horn too much, but they have plenty of accolades to their name. The list recently got a little bigger, as the brand won 10 out of 30 total awards in the recent Motorist Choice Awards, a competition sponsored by IntelliChoice and AutoPacific (who happen to be two of the biggest names in automotive media). Chicago used Corolla dealers are proud just to be recognized by the prestigious organizations in all of their automotive glory, as choirs of angels in heaven sing the praises of the Toyota brand. Down below, the Big Three are stirring in the murky depths of Valhalla, watching warily for the time of reckoning, flames licking at their ironically named Firestone tires in the cavernous black nothingness of hell. Toyota's performance has been an extreme triumph, one that Chicago Prius drivers could write a dogmatic treatise on that would extend its influence through the ages. There truly is no room for gray area when you compare Toyota to the competition; it's an epic battle of good versus evil.
Chicago used Corolla dealers have been impressed by their brand's ability to bounce back in a time of dire struggles, when a lesser brand would fold. "From an emotional standpoint these awards are a reflection of how cars fit into people's daily lives, the tasks they fulfill on a day-to-day basis and the image people have of their vehicles," said Charlie Vogelheim, IntelliChoice Executive Editor, in a statement. "The cars in these categories not only represent tremendous value, they are also about the image you want to portray to other motorists as well." In the end, I'm just glad to have the old Toyota back, the one that made Chicago Prius dealers one of the most visited auto stores in the city. Be sure to head down to your dealer and pick-up a Prius today.
