Peoria Kia Sportage impressed with speed, charge time of POP concept

What a concept! Kia recently unveiled its new concept car, the POP, at the Paris Auto Show and this electric car with its strange shape is sure to create a buzz in the auto industry. Its speed capability alone has your Peoria Kia Sportage dealer talking.

With a battery that can recharge at a high-voltage connection in just 30 minutes and able to reach speeds of up to 87 mph. A European commercial for the POP sums it up as "upbeat, unexpected, and technologically sophisticated" and from the drive it takes around Paris, the POP appears to live up to all of those characteristics.

This is the future of the electric vehicle and Kia is on the cutting edge, according to Gregory Guillaume, chief designer for Kia Europe. "A concepts car like the POP could only have come from us. Designers from other companies regularly approach me at motor shows and say I would never even be allowed to try and carry that one off' and it's great to be in a position to operate with such freedom."

Freedom is certainly what Pekin used Kia customers will feel when they get a chance to drive this electric wonder. Kia isn't saying what the timetable is for bringing the POP to the market or when it might hit the U.S. shores, but Kia fans and many others will likely be watching and waiting.

The ability to recharge quickly, though we don't know the implications of the "high voltage" requirement and how practical that would be for a home charging station, make the POP very attractive. Thirty minutes versus 6-12 hours for many electric cars is quite an improvement. The speed is phenomenal too. Many electric cars can't exceed 60 mph for any length of time, so the POP is already above and beyond much of the competition and who knows how much faster it might be by the time if reaches the market.

"The POP fits in perfectly with our challenger brand' ethos," Guillaume explained. "We're trying to stir things up in the automotive world, to surprise people even more. We wanted this car to act as a loose nucleus, a wild atom." Whatever that means. It sounds exciting, anyway, and like a challenge to other brands to step it up in the electric vehicle arena.

Your Peoria Kia Sportage dealer, in the meantime, has a wide variety of vehicles to offer and the entire Kia collection offers great fuel economy and quality. Safety features abound as well. Along with its sister brand, Hyundai, Kia has made great gains in its U.S. sales numbers and become a well-respected brand here.

Pekin used Kia also has a nice selection of pre-owned vehicles and definitely has something priced for every budget.
