Men's cravats have been worn by men as accessories to go with their formal attires for special events and occasions. They have been extremely popular since the 17th century when the British adapted them from the Croatians. Men's cravats are essentially an alternative for men's neckties as they are easier to wear and more stylish. As fashion evolved, cravats evolve with it, originally cravats are only worn during special and grand occasions, but through the changing times they have made to the casual wardrobe of men. Though the styles have changed considering the changes in the lifestyles of the men over the years, the elegance brought by cravats to special occasions will always be the same; it is the mark of a proper gentleman.

Cravats are more comfortable to wear than neckties because of its loose knots, so they are less difficult to wear and they render elegance and class. A cravat is flexible and exceptional, because it's a cross between a tie, a wrap and a scarf. Today, many are wearing cravats even on less formal occasions, not like before when wearing cravats are restricted to weddings and anniversary celebrations only. Moreover, in the past, cravats only come in white, but with the change in fashion and modern technology, colorful cravats made of different fabrics are readily available in the market. Still, silk cravats, due its classic and formal look are the most popular choice for weddings.

There are different kinds of cravats, like, the ascot; a squared-end cravat which can be fastened with an ornamental pin, the stock or neck cloth; a decorative white cravat, the Rabat; a vertically pleated front fall. The Different color combinations and modern patterns give more than enough choices to those who chose to wear these cravat ties.

Before wearing a cravat, always consider the occasion and your accessories. A cravat should be worn with a stiff-collared shirt and a suit. For a much formal event, tie the cravat elaborately then secure it with a pin. For a lesser formal event it can be tied loosely.

Still, one thing you always need to consider in wearing a cravat is your comfort, because confidence will exude if you are comfortable and at ease with your clothes and accessories.
