The first sign that I was entering "the change" was when my grasp of the English language disappeared. I had always been good at English and quite a proficient typist, but not anymore. Jumbled words would appear on the screen andit was really frustrating.
After around 3 months of this, I began to suffer from headaches (probably from the stress of my diminishing mental state) and then I gained weight--quickly. As strange as it may sound, I did not even consider menopausefar too young I belived(I was 49). It was when I had to make a quick exit from a restaurant because I over heated thatmy mothersuggested I may be entering menopause.
I was actually quite upset, I mean everyone knows that reaching this stage of one`s life signals "middle age" and I certainly didn`t feel like a middle aged lady. So, I did what any self respecting woman would doI became depressed! Not for long mind, just long enough to get myself together and decide to do the very best I could for my healthand body.
Improving my eating habits and drinking more water was relatively easy, but including some form of exercise into my life tookmy body some time topersuade. However, I have to report that once I started and made the commitment, I felt fantastic. The regular exercise not only made my skin glow and my wobbly bits firmer, but I also felt that I was taking control of my well being and not just leaving it to mother nature to decide my fate.
Alright, so I`m not 21 anymore, but I have a maturity and wisdom that I never possessed when I was younger. This is a new and exciting chapter and I`m doing the very best that I can togive it a positive spin -- although I have to report, some days are easier than others!
