Project Integration Management

First we should know what is Integration management?

Project Integration Management is one of the knowledge areas of the PMBOK that the project manager can manage to drive the desired results. Integration management is the high level work that Project Manager does which involves managing interdependencies among other knowledge areas. Integration management involves unification, consolidation, articulation and integrative actions that are crucial for successfully completing the Project.

Project Integration management have 6 Processes as follows:

Develop Project Charter:

Provides authority to the Project Manager to spend money and also provides high level Project requirements. It is broad enough to be not requiring any change during Project Execution.

Develop Project Management plan:

Document the action necessary to define, prepare, integrate and coordinate the entire subsidiary plan (Cost Management Plan, Time Management Plan, Human Resource Management Plan etc.)

Direct and Manage Project Execution:

Perform the work defined in the Project Management Plan to achieve the Project objective.

Monitor and Control Project Work:

Track, review and regulate the progress to meet the performance objective defined in the project management plan. The results of this process are changes to the project and corrective and preventive actions to be taken.

Perform integrated change control:

Review all change requests, approve and manage changes to the project deliverables, organizational project assets, project documents and the project management plan.

Close Project or Phase:

Finalize all activities across all the project management process groups to formally complete the project.

It is important for a project manager to have a complete understanding of the processes involved with project management for achieving the target. PMBOK has focused more on clarifying the processes interactions.
