The computer
Current desktop computers and notebooks always have a network connection. A look in the Windows Device Manager provides information about the condition of the driver. In Windows XP, you go right click on My Computer on the properties. Change to the Hardware tab and click the Device Manager button.
In Windows Vista, open the Start menu, right-click Computer, and then also go to the properties. In the left pane of the window you will find a direct link to Device Manager. Fold under the two systems over the plus sign to the branch network adapter. In notebooks you see at this point usually several components in our example, an IEEE 1394 network adapter (FireWire), a wireless adapter for WLAN (wireless network) and the desired network connection, often seen also in terms such as LAN, NIC or Ethernet
