Satellite HD TV and 3D

The 3D revolution is coming. It started long before Avatar, but the success of the 3D blockbuster pushed the three dimensional experience back into the mainstream. After a brief heyday in the 1960s, it receded into the backwater of entertainment for decades. Now, with the advent of high definition technology it's back and better than ever before. Keeping up to date with the latest 3D and TV technology isn't easy, but if you're ready to make the switch, it's important to know what to look for.

Right now, 3D TVs are offered in two varieties. The first is in an LCD set the flat screen television technology that has been the mainstay of HD TV for the last several years. The 3D functionality is enabled in some newer models, allowing the viewer to take advantage of a wide variety of programming. The next is in the brand new technology of LED TV's. These new sets rely on Light Emitting Diode technology to provide a level of brightness never seen before in television. With this technology, it's an understatement to say that 3D really "pops." The brightness brings objects to life, making 3D seem more real than it ever has before. It far outshines LCD 3D models, and if you're going to make the investment it seems prudent to do it in newer LED models.

Another important consideration when selecting a TV with 3D functionality is the programming itself. Since the TV is basically converting a high definition image into an altered three dimensional one, the availability of high-def programming is crucial. Without this, the 3D lacks definition, and usually isn't the experience that people are hoping for. With satellite TV, a huge amount of high definition programming is available any time. With more HD channels than cable, it makes the 3D experience much more enjoyable on account of the huge variety of channels. In some cases, certain packages (like NFL Sunday Ticket and other professional sports programming packages) are only available on satellite TV!

What is certain is that 3D TV is going to be a part of the next chapter in television history. More movies will be made with 3D viewing in mind, both on the big screen, IMAX, and for new viewers at home. It will likely become even more common both as people upgrade their sets and grow more comfortable with the idea of wearing 3D glasses. Already, three dimensional gaming platforms (including the Play Station Three) are already hitting the market. These all take advantage of high definition capabilities, driving people to switch more than ever before.
