Are You Impossible?

Copyright (c) 2010 Soaring Eagle Companies LLC"I only want people around me who can do the impossible." Elizabeth Arden (1878'1966) Canadian businesswoman, style mogul. It's 4:45 on a Friday. The report is due at 5:00 and there are still 15 pages left to write. It seems more and more unlikely that the deadline will be met. Suddenly, Bob comes in, sits down at the computer and in 15 minutes writes the missing 15 pages, makes the required 20 copies and has it on the boss's desk by 4:59. Okay, maybe no one is quite that good, but we all know people like Bob. These are the people who seem to magically finish the task, in spite of, often seemingly, insurmountable odds.Who are these people and how do they do what they do so well? These people are highly motivated and know how to work smart. They are relentless in their pursuit of excellence. They also demand the best from themselves and those around them. They are the movers and shakers of any organization. How can you get these people in your business? Have a business that challenges them. Motivated, accomplished people want to work with businesses that offer them and opportunity to do what they do best. If your business does not have open communication for suggestions and ideas, does not encourage people to take on large tasks, and is generally set in how they do things, impossible people will quickly leave (if they become involved at all). Business that are constantly changing, that are always looking ahead, and that thrive on innovation and challenge will attract impossible people. Are you, yourself, impossible? Can you challenge those around you while meeting challenges yourself? Elizabeth Arden was an impossible woman herself. A woman starting a business alone was almost unheard of in her time. Yet, she built that business into a world-wide success and was, at one time, one of the wealthiest women in the world. If you are in a business that involves working with other people, either as employees or as independent associates, the people that you bring in can make or break your business. Look for the successful people. Find the people that have done great things in spite of the odds. The people that challenge you the most are the ones that can motivate you to reach for new levels of excellence and commitment. Impossible people may not be the easiest to work with but what they bring to your business is priceless.
