An ear doctor who is quite well known played around with his hearing aid controls. If things don't change, he believes that hearing loss would be a problem for most big city people. This doctor and noise fighter is not alone in this line of thinking. Fingers are being pointed at airplanes, jackhammers, and air conditioners as being potential sources of noise pollution.

They seem to be doing well so far. Although an anti noise bill exists, environmentalists note that improvements are still needed on it. New York City is now making an effort to control noise pollution through an anti noise ordinance.

Noise continues to be there, though. As revealed by scientific evidence, a person may acquire hearing loss or nervous breakdowns due to prolonged exposure to noise. Eventually, 20percent of all Americans who are exposed to the noise of modern life are most likely to develop hearing loss, according to a report by the Environmental Pollution Agency.

Some form of affliction is caused by noise to around 80 million Americans, the report states. This is not inclusive of the millions of people who are involved with noisy industries. Children who live near the Los Angeles International Airport and a family living near a factory are among those who suffer the adverse effects of noise.

The only way students who study near airports can hear their teachers over the roar of big jets is if the teachers use bullhorns. School officials trace school fights to children's irritation toward the noise. Research reveals that children are prone to develop serious hearing loss primarily since they are exposed to an area full of noise. Classroom noise levels go past noise limits in any recreation area.

A loud noise would cause a fetu's heart to beat faster and its muscles to contract. Noise affects a person in such a way that he begins to show negative behaviors such as hyperactivity, unhappiness, and irritability. Quality of work is negatively affected by noise.

A worker may have the same output but there are more errors in performance. Sore throat is a result of people straining to be heard above noise. Even if people do get to sleep, they feel very restless and irritable when they are awake.

Findings from researching African tribes reveal that hearing loss is a result of overexposure to noise and not age. Tribe members can hear so well that they can make out what the other is saying from a hundred yards away.

They also do not have the same hearing loss conditions as middle aged Americans exposed to the sounds of war. As the men who heard these noises approach older age, they begin to experience hearing loss.
