Step by Step Instructions:
Step 1. Pick your subject and head over to google "keyword tool search". Next enter the subject of your article and what you're looking for is the amount of "monthly searches" and competition for your subject/keyword. Ideally you would like to get a low competition/high search ratio. Try to pepper that keyword within your article and make it about 2-3 percent of your word count. (Keep in mind that some article directories have their keyword percent limitations). Also add if you can high search keywords within your article. DON'T' OVER DUE IT!
Step 2. Write Your Article
This is probably the biggest reason that most webmasters avoid article writing. But really this is probably the easiest thing to do. Just take your time, make your article conversational. Pretend you're writing to a friend and you're explaining you're subject to them. Write your article in several paragraphs, don't use words you don't normally use, keep it fun and for pete's sake, USE SPELL CHECK. Also have someone read your article before submitting to make sure they understand it. The best way to get started is to just start writing. You can always come back and correct any errors. Also you might want to read a few articles from other writers to learn what style you feel comfortable with. Oh and make your article well formatted and easy on the eyes. Readers don't want to spend too much time reading a long article!
Step 3. Register with article directories
Sign up with these Article Directories.
Make sure in your title you have the subject keyword.
Then your first step is to sign up for a free Author's Account. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART! Each directory allows you to enter your information and a back link to your site/blog. In the "author's box" put a statement that compels the reader to want to go to your site.
Do this for at least 5 of the directories.( It's not necessary to submit more then 5) You do want to submit at least 5 articles to each though!

Step4. Wrap-up
-Find your subject and keyword
-Use the subject and keyword within your article reaching 2-3 percent
-Make sure your subject/keyword is in your title
