Does your business rely on having strong, stable and long-lasting relationships with clients? If so, here are seven ways you can forge a loyal and successful partnership.
1. Make sure you hit deadlines on time and deliver the work as promised. Late or last minute work that doesn't do what you said it would is unlikely to do you any favours.
2. Make sure their visits to your office are pleasant experiences. Let your team know that a client is coming in, so they're on best behaviour, have a plate of posh biscuits in the boardroom and don't leave them waiting in reception.
3. Make plenty of time for them when they need you, either in person or face to face. They'll appreciate that you care about their business and if you can help them with whatever problems of challenges they have, even better.
4. Don't over-charge your clients. When times are tough, there's a tendency to try and squeeze every last penny out of the clients that are active and spending money with you. However, it's only a matter of time before they find out and as soon as you do, the relationship will be over.
5. If you think something is being done wrong, don't be afraid to say something. Just say it in the right way. Yes Men don't last long, so for a business relationship that lasts the course, be prepared to offer your suggestions of how things could be improved. Your client may not agree, but they'll respect your honesty and it shows you care.
6. Make sure you deal with any problems or stumbling blocks, which you may face when dealing with a client, head on. Burying your head and hoping things will go away or can be swept under the carpet is not a long-term solution. Instead, look to get the project back on track by being proactive.
7. Build a strong relationship by inviting them on corporate hospitality events. Golfing days and football matches are two very popular and successful options if the client is into it. However, for a truly memorable and fun day out, why not try a day at the races?
As corporate events entertainment goes, there's very little to compete with a trip to a premier race course. Their meets make for great days out that will still be talked about months or even years later.
